Makeovers

While giving clothes meets an important physical need, our makeovers provide so much more than clothing. Each of our makeover clients get to sit down with a trained style team who listens to her story, learns about her likes and dislikes, and points out the unique features that make her beautiful. She learns how to dress her body and do her makeup in a way that accentuates her best features. While we respect that not all our clients share our faith, we know that every woman is fearfully and wonderfully made and that she deserves to feel this way before she leaves. It is wonderful to see them walk out our door, often in a new outfit, standing a little taller with heads up and shoulders back carrying boutique bags with 25-30 pieces of beautiful clothing, shoes, makeup, and accessories that make a capsule wardrobe curated just for them.

Tech Literacy

Using technology is a critical life skill needed to be qualified for most jobs and to have access to valuable information and resources. Whether from needing to drop out of school to raise children or from living in oppressive environments where they were not allowed access to the outside world, many of our clients have not had the opportunity to learn basic computer skills. Divine Threads offers them a chance to change that. We provide a 7-week Tech Literacy course every quarter where students learn basic, essential computer skills. The women who achieve graduation from the course are rewarded not only by having new skills, but they also get to take home the laptop computer they used in class!

Trauma & Abuse Support Groups

Sadly, many of our clients have experienced trauma and abuse in their lives, be it physical, emotional, sexual, verbal, or spiritual. While heroically soldiering on, the feelings of sadness, fear, anger, guilt, unworthiness, and isolation haunt them every day, keeping them from being the confident, content, purposeful women they were created to be. Divine Threads uses a 14-week, faith-based curriculum, “Mending the Soul” created by professional counselors and mentors to provide non-professional, community-based group counseling for abuse and trauma survivors. The women who participate in our small, safe group find that the system of sharing stories, exploring emotions, and processing their experiences together provides them with the opportunity to heal. This program helps survivors form a community, giving them much-needed emotional support.
